Wow, twenty years as a photographer. Time really does fly. I’m lucky in that I get to do something I love and have a passion for. That, and the fact I also get to hang out with some amazing people on what is the best day of their lives. How fortunate am I?
Weddings I suppose are my speciality although I do may portraits and landscape photography is a new found passion.
Where it all began
I thank my dad, he was a keen photographer. Many years later i picked up my first camera and was hooked. I studied the work of some of the great documentary street photographers. Off course I had a dream to become a National Geographic photographer ( ye right ). Studied photojournalism at Cardiff University and was taught by some of the leading documentary photographers and editors at the time. Great memories and the perfect grounding to pursue my chosen career. I walked away with my post Grad Diploma (The only thing I have ever passed apart from my driving licence). Work followed with national magzines, newspapers and agency work. Then by pure luck I got the opportunity to photograph a wedding. Not one to turn down an opportuntity, I jumped in feet first. The rest is history as they say.
I’m a relaxed, laid back northerner. Outside of my crazy little world of photography, i’m at my happiest with my long term partner climbing a mountain (odd as i’m s**t scared of heights). Skiing is my new found passion especially in the Tatra mountains of Poland. My partner is Polish and she made me say that. Cycling, that’s becoming an obsession and walking, especially in the Lakes or on an empty beach. Perfect.
Oh, and I was a rock drummer in the 80s. I suppose I had my 15 mins of fame.
Now that’s very natural. I come from a background in documentary photography so what better way than to approach a wedding in the style I was taught and love. Candid – creative is what I call it.
I love the feel of black & white so expect to recieve a good dose from the day. (colour is also included).
I studied photography because i’m nosey, I love observing people. One day it’s going to get me into trouble. I also hate having my picture taken. So if you are like me then maybe the way to go is to have your day documented. Little or no posing, just natural photographs will be ideal to tell the story of your day. I do my upmost to blend in, be a guest and walk away with moments that maybe you never knew took place.
Believe me, the day will fly by. Spend the time with family and friends and I’ll capture the fun, emotions, tears and the crazy dancing of your wedding.
